Quinta lección / Fifth lesson
Y llegamos a la última lección de la mano de Alena (creo que lo escribo bien) dedicada a la economía doméstica, y en esta ocasión nos centramos en lo que sería el "orden y la costura", siendo la primera opción muy amplia. No sólo incluimos todo tipo de objetos para guardar nuestras cosas y mantener el orden (valga la redundancia), también incluimos todo tipo de agendas (para mantener nuestro horario en orden) y otros objetos que cumplen también una función decorativa, como puede ser un marco o una shadow box (donde podemos guardar desde fotos a pequeños detalles).
¡Y qué decir de la costura! 
En los últimos meses veo que también se está poniendo muy de moda en España incluir costuras como elementos decorativos o directamente coser detalles a los minis. 
And we come to the final lesson by Alena (I think I write it well) dedicated to the domestic economy, and focused on "order and sewing". The first option is very broad because not only include all kinds of objects to keep our things in order, also include planners (to keep  our schedule in order) and other objects that also fulfill a decorative function such as a frame or a shadow box (where we can save from photos to small details). And how about the sewing. Recently I see that include seams as decorative elements or directly sew details to the minis it's becoming very popular in Spain too.
Para nuestro último trabajo no debemos incluir ningún elemento en particular pero sí debe seguir el tema; además debemos dar nuestra visión del trabajo desde la perspectiva del tema, su significado y el por qué del uso de los materiales que escogimos para el trabajo.
For our last work we should not include any particular element but of course the work should follow the subject. And we must give our vision of the work from the perspective of the subject, its meaning and the reason for the use of the materials that we chose for the work.

Mi trabajo / My work
Voy a decir que sabía que el tema de la costura caería tarde o temprano. A mi me encanta bordar pero lo de coser sí es todo un reto para mi puesto que sólo aprendí a coser a mano y a la aguja de la máquina le tengo auténtico pavor. Y con este trabajo, una vez más, yo demuestro ser monotema.
I knew that "sewing" would fall sooner or later. I love to embroider but sewing machine is a challenge for me because I only learned to hand sewing and I'm afraid of the needle of the sewing machine. And once again I prove to be monothema with this work.

Cuarta lección / Fourth lesson
Si pienso en el tema de los álbums de fotos que he hecho la mayoría se centran en el viaje  que hicimos allí, un paseo por allá, las vacaciones de no-se-donde...  Vamos, que para mi, el tema "geografía" es al Scrapbook lo que un huevo a la masa. Aunque también está el propio tema en sí como motivo para un trabajo, puesto que este término incluye todo tipo de trabajos que buscan transmitir un país, un lugar de interés (o varios), y sus características. A veces es una idea que representa a dicho lugar, como puede ser  la lavanda, que nos transporta a la Provenza, o la Torre Eiffel, que nos recuerda a Francia. Papeles con el estampado de esta temática, mapas, indicadores de dirección, diferentes elementos decorativos, sellos, postales... (gracias otras vez, chicas)
If I think about the theme of my albums that I've made they're centrated on the trip we did, a little walk, vacations of... I mean, this theme is for the Scrapbook what an egg to cake batter for me. Also there is the subject itself as a reason for a work because this term includes all types of crafts that seek to show us a country, a place of interest (or some places), and their characteristics. Sometimes it's an idea that represents that place, for example the lavender transports us to Provence or the Eiffel Tower reminds us of France. Papers with this theme, maps, direction indicators, different decorative elements, stamps, postcards... (thanks again, ladies)    
Así que para este cuarto trabajo (¡cuarto ya!), debemos incluir como elementos obligatorios el nombre de una localidad (país, ciudad...), 2 o más elementos nombrados  en el post del reto. Y, además, debemos dar nuestra visión del trabajo desde la perspectiva  del tema, su significado y el por qué del uso de los materiales que escogimos para el trabajo.
So for this fourth work (fourth already!) we must include as required elements the name of a localition (country, city ...), 2 or more elements named in the post of the challenge. And, in addition, we must give our vision of the work from the perspective of the subject, its meaning and the reason for the use of the materials that we chose for the work.

Mi trabajo / My work
Cuarto reto ya... creo que me muero (+_+) Estas últimas semanas he estado (y sigo) con mucho trabajo. Ya había olvidado el reto y cuando me llega la notificación casi me da algo ∑(゜Д゜;) pero he sobrevivido y aquí está mi trabajo. A falta de tiempo quise hacer algo muy muy sencillo (que luego se complicó, como siempre) así que me decanté por un Travel Book que, en mi opinión, no hay nada mejor para plasmar el tema.
Fourth challenge... Oh my, I think I'm dying (+ _ +) These last weeks I've been (and continue) with a lot of work. I'd forgotten the challenge and when I get the notification I almost get something bad Σ (゜ Д ゜;) Any way. I've survived and here is my work. I didn't have time so I wanted to do something very very simple (which later became complicated, as always). I chose to make a Travel Book that, in my opinion, there is nothing that reflects better the theme.

 
He reciclado un viejo carpesano (o como cada cual le llame en su tierra) y he intentado hacer un cerezo en flor para decorar tanto las tapas como el lomo. Como es algo que voy a usar para mis apuntes de japonés quería algo muy sencillo con pocas posibilidades de estropearse. Llevaba tiempo sin hacer mixed media y he querido aprovechar la ocasión. Para el interior quiso usar una de mis fotos del castillo Himeji con el cerezo en flor.
I've recycled an old rings folder and I tried to do a cherry tree in flower to decorate both the cover and the spine. This is something that I'm going to use for my Japanese class I wanted something very simple with little chance of spoiling. I hadn't done mixed media for a while so I take the moment. For the inside I use one of my photos of Himeji Castle with the cherry tree.
He usado un stencil, gesso, varias pinturas acrílica. Para hacer los petalos estuve mirando perfect pearls pero no encontré lo que quería así que fui a comprar una paleta de maquillaje y me ha encantado el resultado.
I've used a stencil, gesso, acrylic paints and for to make the petals I was looking pink and white perfect pearls or something like that but I didn't find them so I bought a makeup palette and I loved the effect.
Para decorar añadí unos charms al cierre con cadena, un kusudama (o pelota hecha con flores origami) y un marcapáginas doble para el interior.
 To decorate I added some charms to the closing chain, a kusudama (or Origami flower ball) and a double bookmark for the inside.
  
He querido hacerlo sobre Japón porque me encanta el país, los paisajes que tiene son preciosos, aunque seguramente con más tiempo hubiera hecho algo distinto peero... Lo mejor eso ha sido la paleta de maquillaje y lo peor fue sin duda quedarse sin tinta y tener que buscar una fotocopiestería y pelear con el dependiente para que hiciera lo que le pedía.
I've wanted to do it about Japan because I love this country, their landscapes are beautiful.  Surely with more time I would have done something different but any way. The best thing has been the makeup palette and the worst was undoubtedly running out  of ink and have to look for a printing and fight with the shopman to do what I asked.

Cuando tenga tiempo me gustaría hacer un video del interior, pero de momento os dejo estas fotos. Disculpad la poca luz pero el invierno parece que ha llegado a mi casa. He usado fotos, figuritas de origami, restos de otras colecciones, papeles especiales con diferentes acabados (nacarado, con embossing, papel japonés) y los papeles de "Old Japanese Paper" de Far Far Hill, unos freebies preciosos que recomendaré hasta la saciedad.
When I've time I would like to make a video of the inside but for now I leave these photos. Sorry for this light but seems winter have arrived at my house. I've used photos, origami figures, remains of other collections, special papers with different finishes (pearly, with embossing, Japanese paper) and the papers of "Old Japanese Paper"  by Far Far Hill, some beautiful freebies that I will recommend.

JV Institute of Noble Maidens №3 Matemáticas & Geometría

Tercera lección / Third lesson

 En esta tercera lección tocamos un tema super básico que en el scrap se usa muchísimo, tanto que ni nos damos cuenta de que estamos repasando y poniendo en práctica muchas de las cosas que nos enseñaron en clase y que pensamos nunca volver a ver. Quién no se ha roto la cabeza pensando y calculando a qué medida cortar, dónde doblar... qué forma será la más adecuada para ese proyecto: circular, rectangular, cuadrada, ovalada... Pero no sólo calculamos y damos forma a nuestros proyectos. Los números y las diferentes formas geométricas están también en la decoración, en el estampado de un papel, o en un proyecto en sí, como puede ser un calendario. (Gracias, chicas)
In this third lesson we let's give a very basic theme that is used a lot in the scrap, so much so that neither we realize that we're reviewing and putting into practice many of the things that we're taught in class and that we never see again (that's me ≖‿≖). Who has not pulling their hair out thinking and calculating to where to cut, where to fold... what form will be the best for that project: circular, rectangular, square, oval... But we not only calculate and shape our projects. Numbers and different geometric forms are also in the decoration (in the stamping of a paper)  or in a project itself such as a calendar.  (Thanks, ladies)  
Como elementos obligatorios deberemos incluir números o símbolos matemáticos y/o formas geométricas en una cantidad considerable. Y, además, debemos explicar el motivo  por el cual elegimos esos número/formas.
Required elements: numbers or mathematical symbols and / or geometric forms in a considerable amount. And, in addition, we must explain why we chose those numbers / forms.

 Mi trabajo / My work
Sin medidas no hay proyecto. Éso está claro. Y eso que yo no soporto las mates, y la geometría... ufff... no tengo ni idea de cómo hice para aprobar ʘ‿ʘ y aquí estoy, calculando un radio, sacando medidas para una caja... Ver para creer.
Without measures there is no project. That's clear. So, I don't like mathes and the geometry...  I have no idea how I did to approve it ʘ‿ʘ. And here I am, calculating a circle ratio,  taking measurements for a box... Unbelievable.
En cuanto salió el tema supe qué quería hacer: n reloj, y uno que diera la hora.
En realidad la idea me la dio mi marido, un coleccionista de relojes de mucho cuidado (sólo en su despacho tiene unos 12 relojes dando la hora y molestándome con su tic-tac-tic-tac). Como no tenía mucha idea de cómo hacerlo así que busqué en google hasta encontrar algunas imágenes que me gustaran.
As soon as the lesson came out, I knew what I wanted to do: a clock, and one that gives the time. My husband given to me this idea because he's a watches collector (only in his office he has 12 clocks giving the time and bothering me with his tick-tack-tick-tack). I didn't have much idea how to do it so I looked in google until I found some images that I liked. 
 
Me gustaba mucho la idea de una caja - reloj de madera pero con esa forma de "esfera derretida", siendo el reloj la tapa de la caja.
I liked the idea of ​​a wooden clock box but with that form of "melted globe"  and the clock being the cover of the box. 
En este trabajo el problema ha sido todo lo referente al reloj en sí. La esfera y el mecanismo, cómo hacer para que encajara, que luego funcionara, sacar el diámetro de la esfera, colocar los números centrados y todos a la misma distancia...
Conclusión. Debí prestar más atención en cálculo щ(ಥДಥщ) Y para poder cambiar las pilas me pareció mejor hacer la esfera de "quita y pon" de manera que pudiera sacarla cuando hiciera falta.
The problem has been everything about the clock itself: the globe and the mechanism,  how to make it work, calculate the diameter, put the numbers centered and all at the same distance... In conclusion. I should have paid more attention in calculation class щ (ಥ Д ಥ щ) And to be able to change the batteries I thought that's better to do a "remove and put" globe  so that I could remove it when it was needed.
En esta ocasión he usado madera porque, aunque se necesita una caladora y una lijadora, me gusta mucho más el resultado que con el cartón gris, queda mucho más fino y da menos problemas.
This time I used wood. Of course I needed a coping saw and a sander but  I like so much this result and it gives me less problems.
Aunque al principio busqué inspiración en otros proyectos al final he optado por una decoración muy rococó, combinando distintos tonos de azul, flores de colores vivos, perlitas y cintas.
At first I looked for inspiration in other projects but at the end I opted for a very rococo style combining different blues, brightly colored flowers, pearls and ribbons.

 Y éste ha sido mi tercer trabajo para el "Institute of Noble Maidens".

JV Institute of Noble Maidens №2 Música & Danza

Segunda lección / Second lesson

 Tanto la música como el baile son temas muy recurrentes, no sólo a nivel de "papelería" o temática propiamente dicho. Por ejemplo, es muy recurrente el uso de instrumentos musicales alterados o hechos en cartón y decorados. Un álbum en forma de vinilo o una en forma de tocadiscos con álbum incluido...  Y el ballet es muy socorrido cuando hay que realizar un trabajo infantil y/o femenino.
Both music and dance are very common themes, not only in the thematic of the papers or thematic itself. For example, it's very recurrent to altered musical instruments or made them in cardboard and decorated. An album in the form of a vinyl or a record player with album included... And ballet is very helpful when it's necessary to perform a child and / or female work.
Así que nuestro segundo trabajo va orientado hacia estos dos temas (gracias, Victoria). Para la ocasión Olga ha realizado una caja en forma de gramófono con un mini a juego.
So our second work is oriented towards music and dance (thanks, Victoria). For the occasion Olga has made a gramophone with a mini album.  
Como elementos obligatorios deberemos incluir 2 tipos de elementos relacionados con la música o con el baile. Y, además, debemos describir, según nuestro punto de vista, la importancia de su uso en nuestro trabajo, qué significado tiene el trabajo y el motivo por el cual elegimos  esos elementos y no otros.
Required elements: include 2 types of elements related music or dance. And, in addition, we must describe, in our view, the importance of its use in our work, what the work means and why we choose those elements and not others.

 Mi trabajo / My work

 Había pensado hacer una caja en forma de arpa o un piano de cola, pero después de ir viendo el resto de trabajos, y de que no me gusta repetir trabajos ya hechos anteriormente, recordé que en algún sitio del trastero tenía un joyero-caja de música. Tardé un buen rato en encontrarlo y con miedo de que me fuera a caer una araña encima (╥_╥). El pobre estaba mal guardado en una bolsa, con rotos, arañazos... Casi todas las piezas pequeñas se rompían al intentar sacarlas. Después de limpiar la caja con alcohol fui desmostando (o acabando de romper) pieza tras pieza.
I had thought to do a harp or a grand piano box but after seeing the rest of the works and I don't like to repeat works already done, I remembered that somewhere in boxroom I had a jeweler-music box. It took me a while to find it and I's so afraid that a spider would fall on me (╥_╥). The poor thing was badly kept in a bag, with broken, scratched... Almost all the small pieces were broken when I trying to remove them.
Lo siguiente fue sacar con la lijadora lo que quedaba del esmalte y parte de la pintura. Estuve mirando durante unos días pinturas chalk en toda la gama de verdes que encontré pero no tuve suerte y al final decidí mezclar colores hasta dar con un tono que me gustara. Y éste ha sido el resultado (^▽^)
My next move was to remove what little was left of the varnish and part of the painting with the sander. I was looking for a few days chalk paintings in the whole range of greens that I found but I wasn't lucky and in the end I decided to mix colors until I find one I like. And this has been the result (^ ▽ ^)

La combinación de marrones, dorados y verdes me encanta, sobre todo para objetos con un acabado envejecido. He aprovechado un par de papeles de madera en tonos verdes y turquesas para substituir los de color rojo.
I love the combination of browns, golds and greens, especially for objects with an aged finish.  I have used a pair of wood papers in green and turquoise to replace the red ones.
  
Lijé demasiado la tapa y ha quedado con un varias partes de un color más claro que el resto, mientras que los cajones, que fueron los que menos lijé, han quedado ligeramente más oscuros.
I've sanded the lid too much and it was left with several parts of a lighter color than the rest, while I've sanded the drawers very little and these was left slightly darker.
 
Al principio me daba un poco de respeto toquetear el mecanismo musical pero creo que he conseguido colocarlo en su sitio. El sonido sigue sonando un poco a lata pero suena.
At first I was a little afraid to the musical mechanism but I think I've managed to put it in its place. The music continues to sound like a canned but sounds.
Me gustan mucho las cajas de música pero con este joyero no sabía que hacer, principalmente porque me parecía muy feo. Aunque normalmente me fijo más en la melodía,  creo que la combinación de colores era criminal. Desde que volvió la moda del envejecido  y el chalk paint había pensado en arreglarlo peeero siempre hay algo más que hacer. Y gracias a este reto he podido "obligarme" a hacerlo. Estoy francamente agradecida porque seguramente este joyero aún seguiría en el trastero.
I really like music boxes but with this jeweler I didn't know what to do because it was very ugly. Although I usually look more into the melody, I think the color combination was criminal. Since the old fashioned and the chalk paint way back I'd thought to altered it buuuuuut there is always something else to do. So thanks to this challenge I've been able to "force myself" to do it. 
I'm honestly grateful because I believe that otherwise this jeweler would remain in the boxroom.
Con este proyecto he querido mezclar los dos elementos de esta segunda lección  aprovechando el mecanismo musical y la figura de la bailarina. He sido pianista así que la música es algo que está presente en mi vida. El baile nunca me ha llamado la atención pero creo que la presencia del ballet suaviza mucho los colores oscuros y el efecto envejecido que he elegido para este proyecto.
With this project I wanted to mix these two elements taking advantage of the musical mechanism and the figure of the ballerina. I've been a pianist so music is something that is present in my life but the dance has never caught my attention but I think the presence of ballet softens a lot the dark colors and the aged effect that I've chosen for this project.

Me gusta mucho como ha quedado y espero volver a repetir la experiencia en el futuro.
Y éste ha sido mi segundo trabajo para el "Institute of Noble Maidens".
